30 Day Design Experiment, 4 of 30

The first thing you may notice is that I’ve changed the name from “personal challenge” to “design experiment.” Woke up this morning feeling unenthused, and I realized I was focused too much on how good these turn out when I’d rather just focus on the enjoyment of trying new things. Some may not be so great; that’s OK. I think none will be totally horrible as I’ve gotten beyond that part of the learning curve. Could be wrong. It’s likely, though, that the designs will trend toward better as I continue through the 30 days.

Maybe experiment isn’t the ideal word either. I can change it again if I want! Ha! But for now it feels pretty good. Experiments concerning creativity seem so much more fun and interesting to me than when I was involved in science research (a few years) and dreaded getting into the lab. No nasty chemicals – yay! (If laboratory research is your thing, I think that’s awesome; it’s just not mine.)

Today’s design is “Stylized Leaves.” I had done quite a lot of work on this one previously. Yesterday, I filled in the gaps in the layout and then filled in all the shapes. Am especially pleased with this one.

First, the fabric – fat quarter, test swatch, yard views. Available on fabric and home decor items now at Spoonflower.

Next, a couple product views, although at the start of this, I said I’d do just one. (Did I mention that I really like how this one turned out?)

Last, my original drawing, done on (approximately) February 8, 2020.

This one has lots of possibilities for more colorways. Please feel free to suggest others in the comments.

And, as always, thanks for stopping by!
