Contest Entry: “Frolicking Floral Celebration!”

The challenge theme for this week is “Your Artistic Voice: 500th Design Challenge.” A contest and a celebration all in one! I created my entry with much gratitude that Spoonflower exists as an outlet for my particular form of creativity. Thinking of my dear grandmother, who worked for Stadtler’s a department store in the Buffalo,Continue reading “Contest Entry: “Frolicking Floral Celebration!””

Contest Entry: “Maximalist Holiday” Design Challenge

“Poinsettia Overload in Retro Colors with Texture” is a fun, bold design in non-typical holiday colors. This one reminds me of South Florida, where I lived many years ago. Fun for someone who wants to break from tradition, just maybe not completely. This is a contest entry and to be made available soon. Please feelContinue reading “Contest Entry: “Maximalist Holiday” Design Challenge”

Contest Entry: “Cut-and-Sew Fat Quarter Giftables” Design Challenge

So much fun to do this design – a pillow with a retro-looking ornament motif. This is for a DIY project and I’m also planning on selling the finished version via Etsy sometime soon. Retro Ornament Pillow cut-and-sew is designed to exactly fit on a fat quarter of Petal Signature Cotton, as below: Here areContinue reading “Contest Entry: “Cut-and-Sew Fat Quarter Giftables” Design Challenge”

30 Day Design Experiment, 15 of 30

Here’s the second version of the Whimsical Jungle design, differing from the first because it’s been rotated by 45 degrees. This one is also my entry for the Tropical Surrealism Wallpaper design challenge at Spoonflower. Voting for that contest will start Thursday. First, fat quarter, test swatch and yard views: Now, the mock-ups. Wallpaper today,Continue reading “30 Day Design Experiment, 15 of 30”

30 Day Design Experiment, 14 of 30

Today’s design, “Whimsical Jungle,” has two versions, this one, and another rotated to be on the diagonal, which I plan to post tomorrow. Because this one was complicated and time consuming, I’m counting it as two “experiments,” even though it’s really variations of one design. Here’s how it looks on fabric – fat quarter, testContinue reading “30 Day Design Experiment, 14 of 30”

30 Day Design Experiment, 12 and 13 of 30

Yesterday, I spent most of the day working on a somewhat complicated design for the Tropical Surrealism Wallpaper challenge at Spoonflower. I’ll post that one in the next few days. In the meantime, I’m back with two new shaped flower pillow designs. First, here are Mod Flower Shaped Pillow 4 and Mod Flower Pillow shapedContinue reading “30 Day Design Experiment, 12 and 13 of 30”

30 Day Design Experiment, 11 of 30

Another day, another pillow, another mock-up. Here’s “mod flower shaped pillow 3”, created for a fat quarter of 54″ wide fabric, e.g., Linen Cotton Canvas, or wider: Now, the mock-ups – an improvement over yesterday’s (yay!): And the original: Thanks for stopping by! Monica

Another shaped flower pillow. The actual design tweaking didn’t take long – had done most of it before. Today was about venturing a little more into mock-up creation. I’m pretty close to beginner at this process, but the results are still decent, IMHO. Here’s “mod flower shaped pillow 2”, created for a fat quarter ofContinue reading “30 Day Design Experiment, 10 of 30”

What can I do in 30 minutes a day? Parts 9, 10, 11, and 12

Progress has been made! I did have a few setbacks due to the tension on my machine still being off. I finally settled on using a different thread, which seems to be working much better. Also, I didn’t work on this on Friday – too focused on KonMari-ing. That’s the Marie Kondo “Spark Joy” tidyingContinue reading “What can I do in 30 minutes a day? Parts 9, 10, 11, and 12”

What can I do in 30 minutes a day? Part 2

Not as much as I’d like! Today at least. My main tasks were to iron the Paisley Prince Songbook fabric. Then I cut out the outer sides and bottom of the tote. That’s it! I had a lot of trouble with the cutting guides/rulers slipping, which I attribute to at least 2 factors: 1. IContinue reading “What can I do in 30 minutes a day? Part 2”

Sewing Project: V. Large Tote 3 (blog-a-day challenge, day 30)

First of all, wow, I did it! Last day of my 30 day challenge and  I didn’t miss a day. I’m getting better at these challenges! Now, my intention is to blog 2 days a week. Anyway, here’s the “front” of the tote – I say front, but it just as well could be theContinue reading “Sewing Project: V. Large Tote 3 (blog-a-day challenge, day 30)”

Sewing Project: V. Large Tote 2 (blog-a-day challenge, day 29)

Today I fine tuned the sides, bottom, and straps for the tote. I added interfacing to a couple of the thinner pieces and squared up the fabric, but I’ll probably trim each piece more before sewing them together. I also chose the liner fabric today – I’ll post pix of that another day. From leftContinue reading “Sewing Project: V. Large Tote 2 (blog-a-day challenge, day 29)”
