Design Challenge Entry: Chinoiserie

I am not one for ornateness, so I did a modern, stylized take on the challenge. Although I also did this design in more traditional Chinoiserie (basically, a “western” take on Chinese art and design) colors, I think I’m going with this version for the challenge. Unless I change my mind…. which I do sometimes….Continue reading “Design Challenge Entry: Chinoiserie”

Gender Neutral Wallpaper Design Challenge

I updated my entry for this challenge at Spoonflower as below. It may look vaguely familiar, because it is the fabric design version of my Inktober Day 17 drawing, but with the colors changed to a cooler version. The original drawing and the design in its original colorway are also shown below.  Both colorways willContinue reading “Gender Neutral Wallpaper Design Challenge”

Inktober Day 19

This one has the potential for 2 fabric designs. Also, I love the color combo and have already used it in a design, which I can’t post yet as I’m using the design (probably in a different colorway) for an upcoming challenge. Unfortunately, I had a hard time scanning this one and the light blueContinue reading “Inktober Day 19”

“Gender Neutral Nursery Wallpaper” Design Challenge

Edit: I’ve changed my mind and entered another design. Will post that soon. Below is my entry for this week’s design challenge at Spoonflower. The idea was to create wallpaper for a gender neutral nursery. I went bold and minimal with these alphabet squares. The image below is scaled down quite a bit – theContinue reading ““Gender Neutral Nursery Wallpaper” Design Challenge”

Inktober Day 15: A Potential Fabric Design

A fellow fabric designer complimented me by suggesting that this resembles a Mayan jaguar mask. She gave me this link for a similar example of a jaguar panel (you need to scroll down a bit): http://www.humanhistoryinbrief.net/2016/03/ VERY cool because I love ancient rock art but I don’t know much about it especially the Mayan version. Continue reading “Inktober Day 15: A Potential Fabric Design”

Inktober Day 12, Choosing Colors

While seeking information for an upcoming Spoonflower design challenge (“Fair Isle”), I discovered a cool way to choose colors. The original post at Interweave was specifically geared toward Fair Isle knitting, but, I am experimenting with expanding the technique for use in my drawings/fabric designs. The basic idea is to choose colors more based onContinue reading “Inktober Day 12, Choosing Colors”

Inktober Day 11, Realizations and Decisions

As I mentioned in the previous post, I fell behind because I was working on a time consuming fabric design. But I’ve also come to realize that I wasn’t doing this challenge in the best way for me. It was that prompt “Cruel” that threw me for a loop. I have no desire to makeContinue reading “Inktober Day 11, Realizations and Decisions”
